Welcome to the Blogspot for the first Armadale Christian College community service overseas trip. This year we are travelling to Manila, the Philippines and we will be going via Brunei. The purpose of this trip is for upper secondary students to experience the culture of another country and assist in numerous areas where help is needed. Currently these areas involve teaching, care and building. However, we have also been asked to assist in the food preparation and distribution to victims from the recent Manila floods.
Whilst the majority of the trip will involve working in the above mentioned areas, there will be opportunities for the students to experience a jungle training camp in Subic Bay and visit the historically significant World War II military base of Corregidor. Other ministry areas include visiting a local prison to run music and craft activities and participating in a training session and a basketball game at a local high school.
To fund raise for these activities the students have organised two main events. Firstly a movie night where Transformers II was screened, this was a great success. The next big fundraiser was the "Hurt for Hunger" campaign, where a number of very hairy male volunteers from the staff and students were sponsored to have their legs waxed. This was a great success with over $5500 raised to be used for the food distribution.
Several great individuals and businesses have helped with donations, fundraising and assitance. Without their help this trip would not be possible. We would especially like to thank:
Royal Brunei Airlines
Huntingdale Christian Church
Byford Baptist Church - Mrs Kerry Westlake
Hurt for Hunger - The Hansen Family
The Bedfordale Residents Association
Strawberry Fundraisers - Ms Jo O'Hara & Mrs Beth Burne
Mrs Kylie Mell
Thank you for your support. We look forward to your comments and prayers during the trip. Remember the Blogspot will be updated every evening where possible.
God Bless
