Day 1

Hi everyone,

After 2 flights and a long wait at the Brunei airport we have finally made it safe and sound.

The first day went very smoothly, I think that half of us did'nt know if we were coming or going, but trusted that someone had a clue. The humidity hit us instantly when we got off the plane in Manila, felt like oil all over your hands. In the Manila streets, there is an immense change down every street, every turn held new things to ponder about, the different people and the different construction of houses. Streeet poles with hundreds of powerlines coming of them, and a contrast between houses that we would find liveable, with other houses that look hardy constructed, (both next to each other). Things like these stood out and showed how people do what they can, with what they have.  Everyone was happy when we spotted a Maccas sign, and even happier when we spotted another. People were out and about when we arrived at about eleven, which was shocking.  The place where we are staying is really nice, has a very homely feel to it.  The kind of place you wouln't imagine in the slum area. Everyone is doing really great, and some people are getting over cautious about using anti-bacterial gel. :) No-one is sick or feeling down, so overall the group is headed off to an awesome start. Just keep us in your prayers and wish us the best towards any personal, emotional or spiritual walls we may face.

  5. Pastor Keith from Byford Baptist,

Praise the Lord for safe travel and arrival.

As a member of the Mission trip in April 2009, I too can identify with Luke's comments. Even though I'm 60+ the Macca's signs were a welcome sight to me also.

Our church people are praying for you all. (Hi Jean & Paul) And don't forget to have FUN!!!
